Lettuce Aphid - Identification

Key Points:

  1. Lettuce Aphid is a contamination pest of lettuce, endive and radicchio

  2. The aphids colonise plant hearts and rosettes, making them unsaleable

  3. Aphids can also vector cucumber and lettuce mosaic viruses

  4. Lettuce Aphids prefer to feed on the young leaves found inside the wrapper leaves and hearts of iceberg lettuce varieties

  5. In open lettuce varieties, they are found deep within the leaf rosette

  6. Several similar aphid species are found in lettuce crops
